Over the last few months now i have noticed that if i do a search for a local business or trade i.e a plumber or builder the results in Google for say at least the first two pages are just full of directory sites such as Touch Local, Thompson's, Yellow Pages, Ufindus, ect ect.
Now these are big companies pushing out the local websites, and i am really tired of these companies and how they seem to be dominating the results.
The last thing i want to do is do another search as i have just done one in Google, and some of these directories are not even up to date. Just last week i needed to a call a plumber, as my boiler was not working, so i did a search found no immediate results so had to go to a directory like Thompson's, i found a list of about 15 plumbers in my area and started to make the calls, well out of the 15 only one person was either still doing it, or numbers actually worked.
I think it is about time that Google did something about these results, and gave these big directories the push back, or create a directory search feature, where you can choose to search directory results or not.
How do you find the results when doing a local search in your area?
That Touch Local directory really pisses me off at the moment they seem to be popping up for nearly every thing and i refuse to use it, it's just another thorn in the side of local business trying to promote their own websites. |
